Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson is a vital nonprofit organization that helps thousands of people each day.  We are unique because of our incredible scope of services and widespread ministry. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide help, create hope, and promote dignity to so very many. 

We help all who come to our door including veterans, newborns, children of all ages, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, adults in recovery, individuals and families in crisis and homebound seniors.

On GivingTuesday, and throughout the year, there are many ways you can support Catholic Charities:

Donate through the Diocesan Ministries Appeal: The Faithful of the Diocese of Paterson are encouraged to give through the Diocesan Ministries Appeal.  Catholic Charities is the largest beneficiary of this appeal and it is one of our largest sources of funding.  Click here to donate or learn more. 

Donate Food or Clothing:  Catholic Charities operates 3 food pantries throughout the Diocese of Paterson.  These pantries are relied upon by those in need.  You may donate nonperishable foods, host a food drive, or donate clothing at any of our locations. Donate Your Car: Visit www.cccars.org to donate your vehicle.  Pick up is easy and tax-deductible.

Volunteer:  Catholic Charities has volunteer opportunities in our food pantries, with seniors, for adults with special needs and more!  We have families who volunteer with us, a pet therapy programs, and welcome community service groups from businesses, schools and churches.

Our work includes:

Emergency Response:  We are there during times of crisis to respond to emergent needs. Over the past two years, we have helped displaced families due to Hurricane Ida, have provided water to Patersonians impacted by a drinking water shortage, have sent volunteers to Fort Dix to assist with displaced Afghanistan refugees and have been there once again to support our sisters and brothers in Florida impacted by Hurricane Ian. 

3 Food Pantries, spanning 3 counties:  We have helped more people than ever before in our 80-year history since the start of COVID-19. We have given out over 3,000,000 pounds of food since the start of the pandemic. Our communities continue to be impacted by inflation, supply chain issues and other challenges.

Support for individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities: Our Department for Persons with Disabilities has been providing help and creating hope for over 55 years. 

Emergency assistance for individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.: Since the start of COVID-19, calls to our emergency assistance programs have gone up tenfold. We have given out over $4,000,000 in emergency support during this time. 

Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Services.  Straight and Narrow is the largest nonprofit drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in the country.  We offer a full continuum of support from a detox hospital, right through outpatient treatment. 

In addition, we provide support for Veterans, senior citizens, newborns and infants, children of all ages, youth at-risk, families in crisis, immigrants from across the globe, and more!
